New Delhi, September 25: Sam Pitroda, who played a crucial role in India's telecom sector revolution in the 1980s', holds patents for several first-ever developed electronic devices. Few are aware that the technocrat also holds patent over the world's first-ever electronic device - the "electronic diary". An influential social media, known for sharing trivia related to Indian history, shared the image of the electronic diary developed by Pitroda and shared information related to it with the twitterati.
On noticing the tweet, Pitroda was overwhelmed and shared more details related to the patenting of the device by him. "Very few people know this fact. It was the first patent ever issues on handheld electronic device - now smart phones and tablets. I had sued in cook county/Chicago courts in Toshiba, Casio, Sharp, HP, TI and Radioshack for patent infringement and they settled immediately," the 77-year-old Congress leader said.

Pitroda, who attained higher education in the United States and has primarily stayed in America barring his stint with the Rajiv Gandhi-led government in India, is known for several path breaking discoveries in the technological realm.
Between 1972 to 2013, he has registered 43 patents. Among products over which he has claimed intellectual rights include Digital Line Synchronizer, Mobile Terminals and "system and methods for servicing electronic transactions".
