The controlled explosive demolition of a concrete silo in Denmark took a terrible turn crashing down on a large library building. Hundreds of spectators had gathered at the harbour in Vordingborg along the shore to watch the planned explosion at around 4:45 pm. However, the 174ft long structure fell on a nearby building flying papers in the air shocking spectators. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

The structure which had been there for 36 years was being demolished to make way for houses, businesses, and a hotel. The demolition had been in plans since six months with engineers calculating it to fall in the exact opposite direction.

Independent quoted Vice-chairman of the Danish Explosives Association, Johan Finsteen Gjodvad as saying, "When you look at what has been done in preparation, it should fall the other way. It's really unfortunate that it went wrong that way." An investigation has been launched into the incident. Currently, it is not known why the building fell in the opposite direction. The crash site is now being cleared up.

Here is the condition of the library after the damage:

The Local quoted town's Mayor Mikael Smed as saying, "This kind of thing should not happen, but I am first and foremost happy that nobody was injured. Fortunately, Kulturarkaden was within the area sealed off for safety purposes, so there was nobody in the building."

Volunteers helped to clean up the dust and debris from the building. Vordingborg's local government said that despite suffering damage to the exterior, the building's interiors were mostly intact.
