New Delhi, July 4: After days of heat and above 40 temperatures, Delhi-NCR finally received heavy rains on Thursday, bringing relief for Delhiites. Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad had been reeling under immense heat over the past few weeks, with no respite from rising temperatures. The maximum temperature was constantly above 40 degrees Celsius in the region for over a month now. The rains and thundershowers at some place have brought a major relief from the extreme heatwave that had gripped North India. Meanwhile, parts of Punjab and Haryana also received rains today. The Indian Meteorological Department is yet to confirm whether this is pre-Monsoon rain or the official arrival of monsoon. The people of Delhi-NCR took to the social media to cheer the arrival of long-awaited rains and shared photos and videos from different places in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. The IMD had said earlier that monsoon was expected to arrive in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana between July 3 and 5. The month of June saw 33 percent deficit rainfall across the country. The rains are expected to gain pace in July. The IMD has predicted a normal monsoon for the country this year.
