A family in Russia had buried their beloved dog after it appeared to be dead to them. The pooch laid motionless and considering its old age, the family presumed it to be dead. The incident happened in Novonikolsk village located in eastern Russia's Primorsky Krai region. The family members tried waking up the 18-year-old dog but it refused it to even move a limb. They then took Dik to a pet cemetery near the village and buried it. However, it said that the dog woke up after crawled out as it was a shallow grave. Passerbys who saw Dik lying exhausted on the road took it to a local pet shelter. The shelter employees took to social media with pictures of the animal hoping to find a home for it. Dik's family was surprised to see their 'dead' pet's photo and social media and contacted the shelter care. As the news of the dog crawling out of its own grave went viral, social media users began comparing it to the horror novel by Stephen King turned movie 'Pet Sematary' where buried pets return to life 'fundamentally wrong'. The Sun quoted the head of the shelter Irina Mudrova as saying, "Dik's owners thought that he was dead after failing to wake him up. Fortunately, they buried him not deep underground and he managed to get to the surface after regaining consciousness. His owners, two elderly sisters, came to take him home and cried. They were very grateful and donated 5,000 rubles (£60 GBP) to our shelter."
