The semi-finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup saw a clash between England and Croatia at the Luzhniki stadium. Croatia made it to finals by beating England with 2-1 leaving team England with a devastating defeat as they had entered the World Cup semi-final in 28 years. But in the first half of the match, a bizarre incident took place to which there is no explanation. A dead fish was captured by the photographers on the pitch at Luzhniki stadium in Russia. Although, it was quickly removed from the pitch by an official.

It is not clear why the fish was launched onto the pitch or which set of supporters threw it. But the dead fish was quickly removed by an official in an orange plastic. Fortunately, it didn’t disrupt the flow of the match and neither of the players slipped on the scaly fish which could have caused a potential injury.

The match was going well for England at the beginning when Kieran Trippier scored a beautiful goal from a free kick just five minutes into the first half to give England a 1-0 lead. But in the second half, Croatia’s Ivan Perisic evened the score to take the match into the extra time. Then, England team’s dreams were crushed when Maria Mandzukic scored Croatia’s late winner.
