Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the first sportspersons to join forces to protect the Amazon forest after a record number of wildfires in the thick rainforest left cities surrounding the Amazon in a cover of thick smoke. The blaze has already spread out of control levels leaving many areas such as Roraima, Acre, Rondonia and Amazonas badly affected. Soon many from across the world started the #PrayForAmazonia campaign on twitter, which gained more popularity and weight after Juventus footballer Ronaldo joined the prayers for Amazon forces. “The Amazon Rainforest produces more than 20% of the world’s oxygen and its been burning for the past 3 weeks. Ronaldo Joins #PrayForAmazonia Forces
Yes, you read that right! According to a report from the Express UK, Ronaldo in his message that led the calls to save The Amazon actually used a wrong image. His eye-catching image that grabbed attention from many social media users was unfortunately not a current photo of the Amazon rainforest fire. But the pictures as stated in the report dates years back to 2013.
The image that Ronaldo shared on his social media pages was actually of Brazil’s Taim Ecological Station that was taken in 2013. But despite his mistake of putting up a wrong picture, Ronaldo should be credited for bringing the matter to his notice and sharing it with everyone.
