A man had a cotton bud stuck in his ears for two years and realised only after going for swimming that the cotton bud swelled up inside his ear canal, leaving him in a lot of pain and limited hearing in his right ear. A grim footage shows Audiologist Neel Raithatha at the Hear Clinic in Oadby, Leicestershire removing the cotton bud from the patient’s ears. The patient said that he got a cotton bud stuck inside his ear two years ago in 2016 but thought it had fallen by itself.

Neel Raithatha explained the unnamed patient was in agony before the bud was eventually removed. Mr. Raithatha performed a delicate procedure to extract the small part of the bud – believed to be the tip. Speaking about the clip which he uploaded on his popular YouTube channel, he said, “The reported muffled hearing in the right ear. Fortunately, the eardrum was healthy and intact, and it took around a minute to remove. It was a delicate procedure given the cotton bud was pushed right up against the eardrum.”

Neel said, “I had to ensure I did not exert any force whilst removing as I could have easily have perforated the eardrum in doing so.” Neel calls himself the ‘wax whisperer’ and has removed unusual objects from people’s ears in the past. “I have previously removed a pen cap and an earring from ears,” said the wax whisperer, Neel Raithatha.

Neel Raithatha shot to fame in recent months when his videos of removing wax from people’s ears went viral. He has nearly 60,000 subscribers on YouTube where he regularly uploads his clips. Mr. Raithatha has amassed more than 45 million views on YouTube since he began to upload such grim videos in 2013. According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, inserting a bud could damage the ear and push wax further down.
