Yet another social media challenge for teenagers that is potentially dangerous has kickstarted a trend. In what has been named 'Condom snorting challenge', teenagers are inhaling condoms up their nostrils and pulling them out of their mouths. Videos posted on social media shows teenagers inhaling unwrapped condoms and removing it from their throat.
The practice is not only gross but also raising health concern among the adults. It could be a choking hazard and serious problem. Earlier the challenge had emerged in 2007 but did not find many audiences. However, it has resurfaced again with people sharing videos of doing the visibly disturbing challenge. Health experts have urged teenagers to stay away from the challenge which along with being a choking hazard can affect the nostrils.
Talking about the ill effects of the challenge, Dr Pradip Shah, HOD and General Medicine Specialist at Fortis Hospital, Mulund told Latestly, "Teenagers do it for the thrill of the moment without thinking of the consequences. The lubricant in condom should not be swallowed as it contains chemicals. In this challenge, kids end up absorbing the chemical into their mouth which can also end up in the lungs."
Here is the video:
The rubber that the condoms contain could get caught in a person's airway and block their ability to breathe. The spermicidal lubricant can also affect the inner lining of the nose and cause allergy. The spermicidal lubricant found on most condoms can also irritate the inner lining of the nose and cause allergic reaction or infection.
Health experts are now warning parents to keep a check on what their children are up to. Bizarre body challenge with terrible body hazards has been in trend on social media. A deathly social media challenge among teenagers that created terror worldwide was 'Blue Whale Challenge'. Duct tape challenge, tide pod, choking game, butt chugging, vampire biting are some among the most dangerous social media challenges that caught trend among teenagers.
