A woman in China who hoped to make some traditional snake wine used as a medicine, unfortunately, got a bitter taste her effort even before she could make it, costing her life. To make the wine she had ordered a krait snake from a shopping portal. She was bitten by the venomous snake and died eight days later.
A krait is a highly venomous snake and the 21-year old had ordered it online from a seller in the southern province of Guangdong. The area is known for this venomous reptile and she bought it from an e-commerce platform called Zhuanzhuan. The snake was delivered by a local courier company without knowing what is there in the box. Hundreds of Snakes Including Baby Cobras Found in a Daily Worker's House in Odisha, Watch Video!
The girl's mother told Xinhua news agency, the girl had planned to make traditional medicinal wine with the snake. The snake wine is made by infusing whole snakes in alcohol. The death of the girl in the case is unfortunate but it also highlights the larger problem of trading snakes or wildlife with the help of e-commerce. It is actually banned to carry out such tradings and has to take down postings quickly. But the practice is still prevalent and people resort to using smaller platforms like Zhuanzhuan which are not really monitored. The entire e-commerce field is seeing a boom in China and some of the bizarre items make it on the sites but venomous snakes, that too so comfortably delivered is scary.
