A man from Chhattisgarh lodged an FIR against his son for killing his beloved pet dog. Shivmangal Sai filed a police complaint again his own son for killing Jhabbu, the man’s pet. The police official narrated the unique incident when an inconsolable Sai approached them with the dead body of his pet dog, which was allegedly murdered by his son.
The police said Sai had two sons who were not too fond of the dog, their father had domesticated a year ago. They had frequent arguments over it, but the 48-year-old man refused to give in to their demands and that Jhabbu would continue to live in the house in Surajpur district’s Podi village.
According to Shivmangal Sai, his 28-year-old son, Santdhari hacked his dog to death. The crying man said he was not home when the murder took place. Disheartened at the sight of Jhabbu lying dead in the pool of blood, Shivmangal filed a police complaint against Santdhari and accused him of killing his pet.
SR Bhagat, Surajpur’s additional superintendent of police (ASP) was speaking to a local newspaper, said that when Sai was not home, one of his sons started teasing the son. He instructed the dog to fetch a ball lying in front of the house. When the animal did not obey Santdhari’s instructions, he killed him with a sharp-edged weapon.
The ASP also said Shivmangal Sai came along with the dead dog to the police station on a bicycle to register a case against his son. The police arrested him for killing the animal under section 429 of Indian Penal Code. However, Sai’s other son claimed that he was annoyed with the dog as it chased and attacked his mother.
“So, fearing a serious injury the dog’s attack might inflict on my mother, I killed the animal,” he told in the statement to the police. But a defiant pet owner, Sai countered his son’s allegations about his son saying, “My pet was a docile and family dog that always gave unconditional love to everyone at home. But they killed it.” Sai buried his dead animal friend while his murder accused son was later granted bail.
This bizarre incident is disturbing as the poor dog was cruelly killed. It also portrayed the unconditional love that Shivmangal had for his pet, Jhabbu, where his love for the pet animal surpassed the affection he had for his own sons and wanted them to get punished and justice be served to his dead friend.
