Popular chef Atul Kochhar courted controversy after his tweet on Islam generated widespread social media outrage. Kochhar is a well-known name in Dubai with an Indian restaurant, Rang Mahal at the JW Marriott Marquis hotel. He replied to Priyanka Chopra's recent tweet in which she apologised for a Quantico episode that showed Hindu nationalist as terrorists. Following the incident,
A Dubai hotel where Kochhar is a chef said that they do not share similar views or ideas on diversity. Distancing themselves from Kochhar, Bill Keffer, General Manager, JW Marriott Marquis Dubai said, told Gulf News, "We are aware of the comments made by Chef Atul Kochhar. We would like to stress that we do not share the same views as stated in the remark, nor is it a representation of the culture of diversity and inclusion that we pride ourselves on at the hotel."
Kochhar had replied to Priyanka's tweet saying, "It is sad to see that you have not respected the sentiments of Hindus who have been terrorised by Islam over 2000 years. Shame on you."
Priyanka is the protagonist in Quantico, where she plays an FBI agent named Alex Parrish and currently the show is in its third season. The episode 'The Blood of Romeo' aired on June 1 stirred controversy after which the makers and the actor apologised.
Here's what Priyanka wrote on Twitter:
I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I'm a proud Indian and that will never change.

Here's chef Atul Kochhar's reply to it:
Following the furore, Kochhar apologised for his comment. He tweeted the following:
There is no justification for my tweet, a major error made in the heat of the moment on Sunday. I fully recognise my inaccuracies that Islam was founded around 1,400 years ago and I sincerely apologise. I am not Islamophobic, I deeply regret my comments that have offended many.

ABC Studios in a statement apologised for the episode that hurt religious sentiments of people. It read, "ABC Studios and the executive producers of Quantico would like to extend an apology to our audience who were offended by the most recent episode, 'The Blood of Romeo.' The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn't create the show, nor does she write or direct it. She has no involvement in the casting of the show or the storylines depicted in the series."
It further read, "The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case, we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone."
