Is the artificial intelligence that humans made for their assistance posing a threat to them already? Well, it seems robots are doing lot more than what is expected out of them or maybe just humans are responsible for letting a powerful entity use information. Mind-reading machines that can mimic human feelings are today a reality in the form of emotional robots.

The newest in the clan is Charles which can analyse a person's facial expression. The humanoid can replicate different moods, facial movements and even smile. Cambridge University experts are now hoping that this robot starts responding to subtle cues revealed by people during conversations. It can currently also read the change in position of people's face and mimic the same in two to three seconds.

Researchers hope that with this, robots could be soon able to think and feel like people. Professor Peter Robinson from the University of Cambridge's department of computer science worked with Hanson Robotics to create Charles.

Speaking to the Cambridge News, Robinson said, "We've been interested in seeing if we can give computers the ability to understand social signals, to understand facial expressions, the tone of voice, body posture and gesture."

He further added saying, "We thought it would also be interesting to see if the computer system, the machine, could actually exhibit those same characteristics, and see if people engage with it more because it is showing the sort of responses in its facial expressions that a person would show. So we had Charles made."

Professor said that the robot requires changes to make it actually look like it is frowning.  This is not the first time robots with lifelike features have been made. Sophia, another human-like robot had grabbed headlines two years ago. The super-intelligent machine had a realistic face and could blink, talk and look from side to side. Created by Hong Kong firm Hanson Robotics, the robot was given citizenship of Saudi Arabia. It made her the world's first robot to be granted legal citizenship.
