Celebrity Panda Chuang Chuang Dies Aged 19 at Chiang Mai Zoo in Thailand; His Adorable Videos Go Viral

Chuang Chuang, a celebrity panda at Chiang Mai Zoo in Thailand died on Monday at 4:30 pm. The 19-year-old animal at one point was so popular that he had a TV show dedicated to him and his offspring.

Chuang Chuang, a celebrity panda at Chiang Mai Zoo in Thailand died on Monday at 4:30 pm. The 19-year-old animal at one point was so popular that he had a TV show dedicated to him and his offspring. As the panda died in captivity,  the zoo will be conducting autopsies to determine the exact cause of the death. Chuang Chuang was born at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas in Sichuan province on August 6, 2000. The panda was brought to Thailand's Chiang Mai Zoo in 2003 along with Lin Hui, a female panda. It started a 10-year conservation program to breed giant pandas. The panda couple had their first baby together in 2009. The birth of Lin Ping was a much-celebrated affair leading to the creation of the Panda Channel. Following the zoo witnessed a spike in the number of visitors. Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui were due to return to their homeland in 2013, however, the government extended their agreement to another decade. Pandas generally live upto 15-20 years in the wild and 30 in captivity. Jia Jia was the oldest recorded panda which died at the age of 38.
