A Texas family is grieving the death of their cat which was accidentally euthanised during a routine visit to the hospital. Michelle Olson and her husband had taken their eight-year-old cat, Sophie to Suburbia North Animal Hospital in Houston for rabies vaccination other than a regular checkup. They were returning from the hospital when they received a call. Husky Dog Saved Seven Kittens From Dying and Now Acts Like Their Mother.

Recalling the terrific incident, Olson told CNN affiliate KTRK, "It was the doctor herself calling saying, 'Please get Sophie back here immediately, we gave her euthanasia instead of a rabies vaccine.'" She said, "I immediately took her out of her cat carrier and I held her, talked to her, because I knew that was going to be the last thing she would remember. I knew she wasn't going to come back at that point. I just knew it. She pretty much was dying in my arms."

Sophie After Being Accidentally Euthanised:

They took their cat immediately back to the vet but couldn't save it. Trying to flush out the toxins, the hospital staff gave oxygen and fluids to Sophie but she died two days later. Olson said that it was an "accident that should have never happened." The hospital staff was sorrowful and apologetic about the incident. Michelle said, "My main concern is not to bash them at all, just want to make public aware to be vigilant, ask questions that you didn't think you had to ask of your veterinarian so this doesn't happen to anyone else."
