Dubai, August 17: In a major embarrassment for Pakistan, Burj Khalifa, an iconic skyscraper in Dubai, displayed the Pakistani flag upside down. Social media, especially Twitter, is flooded with pictures and videos of Pakistani flag being displayed upside down on Burj Khalifa. The skyscraper was lit up with the colours of the Pakistan flag on Friday, two days after the country celebrated its Independence Day.

Traditionally, Burj Khalifa lights up with flags of different countries to mark their Independence day. The tallest tower in the world also displays important figures and marks important days or occasions with its spectacular light and sound shows. To mark Pakistan's Independence Day, Burj Khalifa displayed the Pakistani flag on its wall. Soon after videos and pictures of Burj Khalifa displaying the Pakistani flag upside down went viral on social media, people started making fun of the country. On the same day when the Pakistani flag was displayed upside down, Burj Khalifa was lit up with the Indian tricolour to mark India's Independence Day. In a separate development, Pakistan's effort to internationalise the Kashmir issues failed after the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) ended its closed-door discussion on scrapping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 by New Delhi without releasing any formal conclusion or statement.
