British Schools Replace Analog Clocks With Digital Ones as Students Can't Read Time
Kids could not figure out how much time was left for them to complete the test and were taking extra stress. To provide relief, the officials decided to let go and replace the traditional clocks with digital ones altogether.
The dependence on internet and smartphones is creating an influence beyond measure. With our phones replacing alarm clocks, reminders, calculators and notes among many other things, it is the analog clocks next which are taking the hit. Schools in the UK are replacing the analog clocks as students have complained they cannot read the time during the tests. And instead of teaching the kids to learn the time, the schools have decided to let go of the clocks! Shocking right?
"The current generation aren’t as good at reading the traditional clock face as older generations," said Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders to The Telegraph. "They are used to seeing a digital representation of time on their phone, on their computer. Nearly everything they’ve got is digital, so youngsters are just exposed to time being given digitally everywhere."
Kids could not figure out how much time was left for them to complete the test and were taking extra stress. To provide relief, the officials decided to let go and replace the traditional clocks with digital ones altogether. "You don’t want them to put their hand up to ask how much time is left,'' Trobe said. It is a school's responsibility to make the school kids comfortable more so during the exam time. So some schools have decided to install digital ones. Not just in the UK, similar difficulties were also reported by some teachers in America. Well, the ill effects of the digital age are showing can we say?
As a child, we were always taught to measure time with the help of the hands of the clock- the hour, the minute and the second hand. To learning to recognise time was one crucial part of the growing up process. It is indeed sad to see technology taking over so much that something as basic as analog clocks is being dumped, that too in educational premises.
