Brazil's First Lady, Marcela Temer jumped into a lake to rescue her dog at the presidential palace in Brasilia. Presidential officials revealed that on seeing Picoly, a Jack Russell she threw herself into the lake fully clothed. Mrs Temer was walking in the gardens with her son, Michelzinho when Picoly jumped into a lake after some ducks and did not return to the shore. Although the incident happened on April 22, the news became public only this week.
A security agent who refused to help the animal in distress was dismissed from their post. However Brazilian officials have denied that any presidential employees have been dismissed over the incident. The 34-year-old former beauty queen married the 77-year-old Brazilian President Michel Temer in 2003. The family have two dogs, Picoly and Thor, a golden retriever.

The British animal welfare charity the RSPCA, however, says that people should not put their lives in danger trying to rescue an animal from water.
