Parenthood is never easy! It takes all your strength and expense at a time which is full of expected and unexpected instances. Children needs everything; food, clothes and all kinds of other stuff that fascinates them. And sometimes they get over excited with things that in literal terms should be kept far away from them. For example: expensive artworks! That is what has happened to a couple from Kansas, United States whose five-year-old son broke a figure which was made of glass and pieces of mirror after hugging it. Yes, the little one was caught on surveillance footage which shows how he was captivated by the sculpture and strived for a bit before it fell to the ground. The city asked parents to pay 132,000 dollars (over Rs. 89 lakhs) in order to recover the damages.

The artwork, “Aphrodite di Kansas City” was displayed at an Overland Park Community center. The incident took place on May 19 when the five-year-old was attending a wedding reception with his parents and siblings. Sarah Goodman told Kansas City Star, “He probably hugged it.” She further added, “Maybe my son hugged a torso because he’s a loving, sweet nice boy who just graduated from preschool.”

The insurance company of Overland Park sent a letter to the family and the same report reveals that Goodman and her husband were accused if negligence who failed to keep an eye on the child. “I don’t want to diminish the value of their art, but I can’t pay for that,” Goodman was quoted saying. Goodman was surprised to know that no one from the city once asked if her son was fine. The five-year-old did not damage the art piece on purpose and his mother further stated that the city could have projected it in a better way.

An artist named Bill Lyons from the Kansas City created the sculpture who valued the piece at 132,000 dollars. It took him two years to complete the project. “I want to be reimbursed for the amount of time that I spent on it and for what I think it is worth,” the artist said. The figure was on a stand inside the community center at 11902 Lowell Ave.
