For those who fly across the globe frequently, there can't be a news better than this. No, flights haven't cheaper, but your time consumed flying is going to be reduced drastically. Boeing has unveiled a new hypersonic passenger plane which can fly from Australia to Europe in just five hours, five times the speed of sound. The aircraft would be capable of travelling at almost 6,500km/h reducing international flights across the globe.

With that, a flight between New York and London would take just two hours and go to Europe from Australia in not less than five hours. The concept aircraft was unveiled at the American Institue of Aeronautics Aviation 2018 conference held in Atlanta. The plane would be bigger than business jets, but not as large as the conventional sub-sonic airlines.

Daily Mail quoted Kevin Bowcutt, senior technical fellow and chief scientist of hypersonics as saying, "We're excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before. Boeing is building upon a foundation of six decades of work designing, developing and flying experimental hypersonic vehicles, which makes us the right company to lead the effort in bringing this technology to market in the future."

Elon Musk's SpaceX program also plans on creating technology for instantaneous cross-country travel. Earlier this year, Boeing along with Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems invested in UK-based hypersonic propulsion company Reaction Engines.

Reaction’s hybrid SABRE engine is a mix of rocket and jet technology which is capable of reaching Mach 5 25 times the speed of sound in rocket mode for space flight. A vehicle powered by a SABRE engine can travel between London and Australia in four and half hours. Talking about its hypersonic flight, Boeing said that they will position it in such a time when the market can use hypersonic flight.
