Bihar Man Steals 4200 Xiaomi Smartphones Worth Rs 87 Lakh, Lands in Jail

As per the report, a resident from Bihar has been arrested with 4,200 stolen Xiaomi smartphones in his possession.

The Police have detained a man in Delhi for stealing 4,200 Xiaomi smartphones. According to a report from Economic Times, the man was produced in the city court and later sent to the judicial custody. As per the report, the man has been identified as Ramesh AKA Bablu a resident of Motihari in Bihar. Ramesh with his three accomplices broke into Xiaomi warehouse and stole 4,200 smartphones worth Rs 87 lakhs along with home appliances like a washing machine on May 18, this year. Supreme Court Slams Notice to WhatsApp & Two Indian Ministries, Seeks Reply Against Non Appointment of Grievance Officer.

Now, reports from Times of India states that the crime unit of sector 17, who were investigating the case, had first arrested Alas Miya in Motihari on August 6 and was sent for questioning. The accused after hours of interrogations finally revealed rest of his crew, after which the police apprehended Ramesh. After another round of questioning, the accused shared the details of the robbery. As per Times Of India report, ACP Shamsher Singh of sector 17 crime unit said “The accused were in touch with some contacts in Nepal. They were trying to send the stolen items to Nepal to sell them there. Our crime unit team recovered 4,239 brand-new mobiles. The market value of these mobiles is over Rs 87 lakh. Our teams are conducting raids to nab the other two associates.”

This is not the first case of smartphone robbery involving warehouses.  Back in November, Apple’s iPhone X models were stolen from a UPS truck in San Francisco, which was valued at $ 370,000 (Approx. Rs 25,900,600). Whereas in September 2016, two men from Delhi were arrested for stealing iPhones worth Rs 2.25 crores.
