The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Island has erupted displacing millions. Two new cracks have been emitting lava from the ground on the east side of Leilani Estates flowing into residential areas. Molten rocks in red squirted out fountains of glowing lava into the air as high as 300 feet. Kilauea volcano has destroyed more than 35 homes, buildings and everything on its way. Trees, roads, fences have been reduced to nothing and greenery has been wiped off from the area the volcano flowed.
A time-lapse video from the island shows the lava swallowing everything as it makes way towards a car. The footage shows the lava making its way across a street and engulfing a car parked by the road. The white vehicle burns slowly as it is consumed by the lava to be left in ashes.
Here is the time-lapse video of the lava snaking its way through the residential area:
A series of earthquakes, including a magnitude-6.9 quake, happened on Friday before the lava within made way out. Considering the flow of lava and the intensity of destruction, it may take a very long time for the place to build again and residents to return. A new fissure was reported in the Leilani Estates area some 12 miles from the volcano on Sunday night alerting residents to leave homes. The sulfur dioxide gas erupting the volcano be life-threatening if inhaled at high levels.
According to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, the 6.9 magnitude earthquake was the largest in the area since 1975. The USGS's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory had issued a notice in mid-April about signs of pressure building in underground magma which could form along what's known as the East Rift Zone.
