Tired of the increasing number of potholes and inaction of civic authorities, an artist in Middlesbrough did something unique. In a bid to grab the attention of authorities, Wanksy, a graffiti artist drew graffiti shaped like penises around potholes in his neighbourhood. While people may want to call him a hooligan, his actions immediately grabbed the attention of civic officials. Wanksy had spray-painted penises around the potholes in Northeast England. Pictures which are being widely shared on social media shows penis painted in red colour and another in black surrounding two potholes. A Facebook page shared a photo of a resident called Brad Nicholson, whose caption read, "The power of the Willy. Repaired this morning 25-04-2019. Only been there a year, well done Middlesbrough Council." Middlesbrough Council said a road-mending team that was already in the Acklam fixed the potholes after being made aware of the drawings. Nicholson said the potholes had been there for two years and became an issue since last year.

After the roads were repaired, Wanksy was quoted as saying, "People will drive over the same pothole and forget about it. Suddenly you draw something amusing around it, everyone sees it, and it either gets reported or fixed." Talking about the paintings, a Bury Council spokesman said, "Painting obscene graffiti around potholes will not get them repaired any quicker, but simply waste valuable time and resources, and is considered vandalism."
