A Nashik man fell into a 700 feet deep gorge in Amboli ghat in Sindhudurg district around 4 pm on Wednesday. The 35-year-old was returning from Goa vacation when the incident happened. Returning he decided to click a selfie but lost balance and went down the gorge. However, he miraculously escaped with minor injuries. Sampat Mahale was saved by a team of police, locals and trained trekkers in the area.

Rescuers found him in a semi-conscious state. Quite fortunately, despite the huge fall, the man had only minor bruises on the body. He was given basic first aid and later admitted to a hospital in Nashik.

Talking about the incident, a policeman told The Times of India, "The victim was returning home with his family and friends after a trip to Goa when they decided to halt near a waterfall to click photographs. Mahale was standing on a boulder near the waterfall to click a selfie when he lost balance and skidded down the gorge. We rushed to the spot after his wife informed local police."

He added saying, "While the disaster management team and a group of locals used ropes to climb down the gorge, eight other rescuers walked down the ghat from the other end, which was five kilometres away."

Mahale's wife Chhaya said, "We were heading to Kolhapur to offer prayers at Mahalaxmi temple when he stopped to take a selfie. My husband is alive only because of Goddess Mahalaxmi's blessings."
