Kolkata, Apr 25: It's hard to bring down a person who made up their mind to succeed in life. Coupled with strong hope and determination, Anjali Roy a young dancer did not let her dreams die when she lost a leg at the age of 11. It is cancer that tried to cut short her career as a dancer, but the little one did not let the disability come in between her dreams. Anjali was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her left knee in 2013, and after that, she lost her leg at 11.
Being a dancer, the girl could have easily given up thinking the physical disability could no longer give wings to her dreams. It was the doctors at the hospital who inspired her to look at the bright side. They told her that she should not give up on her dreams.
Anjali's story reminds us of the famous dancer and actor Sudha Chandran who continued being a dancer despite losing a leg in a road dancer. The 1986 movie Nache Mayuri is loosely based on her life in which she loses one of her legs in an accident, however, continues dancing with a prosthetic leg.
Anjali was quite inspired by the story of Sudha Murthy of whom she was constantly reminded her doctors. Talking to The Times of India, she said, "The doctors made me watch Naache Mayuri while I was recovering in the hospital. That inspired me to never give up dance lessons." Following a year of recovery after the surgery, Anjali put on her ghungrooa
Dr Soma De, paediatric oncologists at Saroj Gupta Cancer Research Institute (SGCRI) Thakurpukur, said, "We counselled the family and the girl before the surgery. Anjali is a very courageous girl. We kept on telling her that not all was not lost."
