Ahead of Swachh Bharat Diwas 2019, Amul has released a topical ad portraying the importance of cleanliness. It also highlights the need to eliminate the use of single-use plastic and recycle the existing ones. The topical ad shows Amul's mascot girl holding a broom in one hand while tossing a plastic bottle with the other, gesturing at recycling it. Swachh Bharat Diwas is observed on October 2 every year as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It is the Union government's sanitation programme aiming at open defecation free (ODF) deadline of October 2019. It is observed on Gandhi Jayanti to coincide with Gandhiji ideologies on cleanliness and sanitation. Addressing BJP workers in Chennai, Modi had said that the message against single-use plastics should be undertaken during the padayatra as a part of Gandhiji's 150th birth anniversary. PM also highlighted that he was not talking about the complete elimination of plastic.
