Adopted Spanish Girl Returns to Pune After 22 Years to Meet Her Biological Mother
The mother-daughter could not bond that well as Zeenat cannot speak Hindi, she only speaks Spanish and knows very little of English.
A 23-year-old Indian origin girl who was adopted by a Spanish couple had a heartfelt reunion with her biological mother in Pune after 22 years! Zeenat alias Mireia was adopted by a Spanish couple Antich Marti Raman and his wife Garica Batacia Fores. At the time of adoption, she was just 14 months old. She was adopted from Shreevatsa, run by Society of Friends of the Sassoon Hospital (SOFOSH).
Zeenat was in India when she was 10-years-old but her parents were not able to trace her mother then. But she was determined to return and meet her biological mother. Zeenat has studied till standard 12 and worked in a restaurant to gather money to visit India. She returned to Pune and happened to meet with her mother, who too was emotional and presented Zeenat with gifts.
This reunion after 22 years was bound to be special yet painful as Zeenat learnt she was born out of an abusive sexual relationship. The mother-daughter could not bond that well as Zeenat cannot speak Hindi, she only speaks Spanish and knows very little of English. Her mother however, can speak only Hindi. Her mother spoke about her tough times during Zeenat's birth to a leading daily. She was quoted, "I was 21 years old when I was repeatedly sexually abused by a relative. He and my family deserted me when I got pregnant. I did not want to abandon Zeenat, but I was not married and also worked as a maid to survive. I did not want her to suffer."
The mother also apologised to Zeenat for not looking after her and her inability to do. But Zeenat was lucky enough to have found a good caring family which is now her family back in Spain. Post the meeting, Zeenat has now decided to learn Hindi and come back to meet her biological mother again. Zeenat's mother hugged her and both mother-daughter had an emotional time to be reunited after so many years.
