Environmental pollution has become the most significant ecological concern today, responsible for adverse changes in the planet. There are thousands of appallingly polluted places, from electronic waste dumps to toxic factories where chemicals continue to seep into the ground. In a bid to control it, the government organisations and environmentalists from all over the world are coming up with stringent measures and awareness camps.

Notwithstanding, the awareness about preserving the environment can only begin in schools, and the education experts so far are taking care of it. However, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) suggested something unusual. Interestingly, the 1st year Higher Secondary Environmental Science Book states that the first man and woman, Adam and Eve are responsible for environmental pollution. Bal Gangadhar Tilak Called 'Father Of Terrorism' in Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education Class 8 Book.

You read that right. The writer (still unknown) considering the mythological suggestion stated that “the process of Adam and Eve who ate an apple and threw away the peels, which led to the beginning of environmental pollution.” The post which was uploaded on Facebook by a user named Ken Timung has soon gone viral, baffling netizens and making them go ROFL at the same time. Some found the post funny; others accused the author and the publishers who, according to them, present wrong facts, misleading the younger generation.

The publishers have not come forward with their explanation for the bizarre statement. Not only does the textbook propagate false information, but also brings in the unnecessary religious angle, making it all the more bizarre. Such instances highlight the lack of fact-checking and quality control in the educational system of the country.  Had it not been flagged by social media users, the Assam government may have not realised the faux pas.
