Abiy Ahmed Wins Nobel Peace Prize 2019, Twitterati Congratulate Prime Minister of Ethiopia For The Honour

One of the most widely recognized awards, the Nobel Peace Prize 2019 was announced today. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali won the coveted award for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea. Twitter is full of praises and congratulatory messages for him. Abiy Ahmed is among the top Twitter trends of the day.

The prestigious prize is awarded annually to the person or organisation that has "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." After becoming the president of Ethiopia in April 2018 he mentioned that he wanted to initiate peace talks with Eritrea. He started working on the peace principles to the end the stalemate of "no peace, no war" between the two countries. Prime Minister Abiy has engaged in other peace and reconciliation processes in East and Northeast Africa too. The Nobel Prize is an honour awarded annually for in different fields like physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, economics, and the promotion of peace. Each recipient, receives a gold medal, a diploma and prize money of 9 million SEK, approx US$ 986,000.
