An iconic rock landmark dating back to the Ice Age, almost 320 million years ago, was destroyed by a group of mindless youths. The rock formation known as Brimham Rocks are upto 30ft high and a very popular tourist attraction in North Yorkshire. One of the stones was toppled over after a group of 5 youngsters pushed it off the spot. The specific sandstone rock was iconic as it was a balancing formation. It is now an irreplaceable damage done to the spot.
The police are on the lookout for the young culprits. "The rock falling from the crag caused damage to the crag face. The damage this has caused is irreplaceable and it is now in a potentially dangerous condition. The incident has not only caused considerable damage to both the rock and the crag face, but those responsible also put themselves in danger and have created a potential hazard for other visitors to Brimham Rocks," said the North Yorkshire Police statement. The National Trust which owns this tourist spot is extremely frustrated and saddened by the damage.

Now the area around the rocks is temporarily closed down and surveys are being conducted to ensure the safety and stability of other formations. The rock that was damaged was called the Millstone Grit, among the many historic rocks at this place. These rocks have attained their unique shapes due to erosion by water, glaciation and winds. Among the other famous uniquely shaped rocks here are Sphinx, the Watchdog, the Camel, the Turtle and the Dancing Bear.
