22-Year-Old Malini Das Becomes First Transgender Engineer in Rajasthan

She is today an inspiration to transgender youths to have bigger aims in life.

A 22-year-old from Jaipur has become the first transgender engineer in Rajasthan. Malini Das completed her engineering graduation in computer science from a private university in Jaipur and holds a Bachelor in Technology (BTech) in Computer Science Engineering. She is today an inspiration to transgender youths to have bigger aims in life. Born and brought up in Berhampore of West Bengal he today works with a business process outsourcing (BPO) in Jaipur.

Talking to The Times of India, she said, "I took my studies seriously. I completed my schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya Berhampore (I to XII). She also talked about the support she received during growing up years saying, "With a lot of childhood friends and family support, I felt socially and economically comfortable as compared to other transgenders. After receiving her engineering degree, she is also pursuing higher studies along with work. Das is doing her masters in Media Science and Mass Communication through correspondence. Her family who works in the government sector has been highly supportive of her achievements. However, she said that there were challenges she had to face mostly due to discrimination in society.

She said, "When I realise that I am being discriminated against, I try to fight against it. I use my best knowledge and skills to get a good social position of LGBT activism as I had done various advocacy, sensitisation, health, livelihood programs with various government and non-government bodies."
