2020 Tokyo Olympics to Go Green! Sports Event Aims to Be Powered Entirely by Renewable Energy
The renewable energy will be extended to the event's main press centre also where the athletes will stay during the period of the game.
The organising committee of 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic is determined to power the event with renewable energy entirely. The authorities have started the necessary work and are aiming to ensure that most goods used will be either reused or recycled. The decision is one of its kind and will surely earn a name for the country in their contribution towards sustainable living.
With the event getting criticised for producing large amounts of waste, the deciding committee has announced their decision to go green this time. Officials hope to change that case and use renewable power instead of other than recyclable and reusable goods.
The renewable energy will be extended to the event's main press centre also, the international broadcasting centre, the village where the athletes will stay during the period of the game. Japan has also started taking steps to achieve this goal by stalling solar panels in roads.
To cater to the massive need, Japan also plans to buy renewable energy from firms which sell it. Others goods and services required will be either rented or leased. The officials are also working to make sure that there are recipients to utilise the items which can be used again. This won't apply to consumable items or the waste produced from it.
The committee also plans to build solar roads in the area around that time. Solar panels have been installed beneath parking lot outside a convenience store in Tokyo. The project will take care of the powering 10 per cent of the store's electricity needs. The Olympics committee for Japan his also making its medals from recycled precious metals from old mobile phones. Their plan is to get eight tons of metal from discarded devices.
