In this fast-paced competitive world, people are working around the clock to meet the demands of their jobs and are struggling to strike a work-life balance. Working at odd hours, meeting clients’ demands and what could make it worse is if you have a horrible boss. Some bosses will treat you like they own you and will expect you to be at their every beck and call. Sadly, most of us go through this and this work culture drains us out completely. No matter how hard you work, your boss (with devil horns) will always find a reason to judge or look down upon you. And this has been brilliantly captured in a Twitter thread which documents the struggles of every Indian employee and the unrealistic expectations our bosses have from us. 5-hour a Day to 4-Days Working Week! Does Working Fewer Hours Increase Productivity? Here's What Studies Reveal.
On August 26, Twitter user Sukhada, a digital consultant, started a Twitter thread that has received more than 4000 tweets and thousands of comments from people relating to the tweet. It all started when she mentioned in her tweet about how Indian companies and founders have ‘no concept of work-life balance’ and how they shame employees for taking leaves and having a life outside work. Sweden Employers Introduce Exercise at Work, 5 Reasons How it Boosts Productivity of Employees.
I absolutely despise how Indian companies and founders, with no concept of life-work balance, shame employees for taking leaves and having a life outside work.
Calls on weekends, guilting a person during and post leave, infinite power games. Shameful.

She further gave an example of how her friend was grilled from the boss after not taking a call for an important meeting while she was away to attend a friend’s wedding for which she had applied for a leave two months in advance.
Someone I know in Bangalore took a couple of days leave for a friend’s wedding two months in advance. There was an important high-level meeting when he was away. The founder actually asked him - Was it your wedding? Why could you not take the call and put it on mute?
Unreal.

And later said that how if we stop having such horrible bosses, we could perhaps talk about mental health at workplaces.
And of course, there are jerks who proudly claim that when they got married, they were at work THE VERY NEXT DAY. The day we stop having founders and bosses like this, we can perhaps *start* to talk about mental health at workplaces.

Her tweet opened a barrage of frustration of employees and many started sharing their own ‘bad boss’ experiences.
Exactly! Also there is no respect. You can work long hours but that needs respect, precision, appreciation, and motivation.
I put in insane hours for a pitch in June, but the man who lead it was very supportive and made it enjoyable...

I felt like I was back in a school atmosphere in my first job. Project heads the teachers and we the students. Also you either join in the company retreat or come to a empty office to feed biometrics 9 to 5. Also the brown-nosing🤦

Exactly! Indian employers don't respect their employees. Period!
And that's y I say what's the point even if your city is the "most liveable city in India" when you don't have a life outside of work. Ridiculous!

I was reprimanded for praying. Mind you, none of the prayers took more than 10 minutes.
And I was reprimanded for even wanting 5 mins to break my fast, after well, fasting for well over 14 hours. 😑

Recently, Amazon’s India chief urged his colleagues and employees to stop responding to work emails or calls after 6pm, and this is the way how all employers should function for their employees to show maximum efficiency. There have been a number of studies that claim If an employee is over-stressed, his work will be affected and so will his mental health. Moreover, in a country like India, women not only are supporting their families financially but also take care of their household chores and help in upbringing their children. Let us know in comments, do you guys love your job or did this thread hit you right where it hurts.
