Mumbai, July 18: Looking at the rise in incidents of sexual abuse and assaults against women, India is no doubt one of the most unsafe countries of the world. According to the latest study- Women's Danger Index, undertaken by two bloggers, India ranks 9th in the list of most unsafe country in the world for solo women travellers. Indian Women Prefer Travel Solo and Exploring More Destinations Abroad Becomes New Trend.
According to Daily Mail, the study, by travel bloggers Asher and Lyric Fergusson kept in mind eight crucial factors while working on the report. They included-safe to walk alone at night? intentional homicide of women, intimate partner violence, gender inequality, gender gap and violence against women attitudes.
In this study, South Africa is the most dangerous place to be in for a solo woman traveller. Croatia has been rated as one the safest countries to walk on the street and America has been ranked as the worst in the West for its homicide rates and intimate partner violence.
According to the Thomson Reuters Foundation report published last year, India is one of the most dangerous countries in the world to be a woman, keeping in mind the unending list which includes- sexual violence against women, human trafficking for domestic work, forced labour, forced marriage and sexual slavery. According to the survey, India is also one of the most dangerous countries in the world for cultural traditions that impact women, citing acid attacks, female genital mutilation, child marriage and physical abuse.
