Lake Nyos in Cameroon in west Africa holds the record for the most deadliest lake because of the deaths that have been caused here. And these deaths are not without drowning but there are some toxic gases here which have claimed nearly 2,000 lives in recent decades. On the night of 21 August 1986 – between 1,600 and 1,800 people and countless animals were killed by a large natural release of carbon dioxide gas. There are different theories about the emmittion of these gases. While some scientists say it is the decomposition of organic material near the bottom of the lake, some say it is the crater of the old volcano nearby which causes the emiting of the deathly gases.
World's Longest Reef
Most of you may know this that that The Great Barrier Reef off Queensland, north-eastern Australia is the world's largest. This underwater reef is 2027km 1260miles in length. Although it is not a single reef, it stretches to include thousands of other separate reefs. These reefs accomodate a huge part of biodiversity. Various species of starfish, algae and corals are found in this part of the planet, something we would have not even imagines exists beyond what we see on the surface.
World's Longest Winter Road
The 'Wapusk Trail' road in Canada is a seasonal road constructed every year between Gillam, Manitoba, and Peawanuk, Ontario, Canada. The 752 km stretch is constructed each January on snow and ice, it gives road access for a few weeks to remote settlements around Hudson Bay till warmer months of March.
