New Delhi, October 4: India’s first privately owned semi-high speed train, Tejas Express was flagged off by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday. The train will run between Delhi and Lucknow, with just two stops in between-Kanpur and Ghaziabad. Tejas Express has one executive class AC chair car and nine AC chair car coaches. The total carrying capacity of the train is 758 passengers.

Tejas Express is the first train that will not be run by Indian Railways but instead, it will be fully run by its subsidiary, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Congratulating passengers of the first corporate train in the country, Yogi Adityanath said, "I congratulate the first batch of passengers travelling in it and hope such initiatives are taken to connect other cities also".

Travel Time:

Tejas Train will take 6 hours and 15 minutes to complete the distance from Delhi to Lucknow. There are further reports that if the train is behind schedule, the Indian Railways will offer compensation to the passengers

The Tejas Express will leave from Lucknow at 6:10 am and reach New Delhi Railway station at 12:25 pm. On its return journey, the train is scheduled to depart from Delhi at 3.35 pm and reach Lucknow at 10.05 pm.

Fare Structure:

The travel from New Delhi to Lucknow will cost Rs 1,280 for AC chair car and Rs 2,450 for the executive chair car.  The journey from Lucknow to New Delhi for IRCTC’s Tejas Express will cost Rs 1,125 for AC chair car and Rs 2,310 for executive chair car. For passengers travelling from Lucknow to Kanpur, it would be Rs 320 for the AC chair car and Rs 630 for the executive chair car.

The fare for passengers travelling between Delhi and Kanpur will be Rs 1155 for AC chair car and Rs 2155 for the executive chair car. It is to be mentioned that all fares on Tejas Express will operate on Flexi-fare scheme and will thus vary. There will also be no concessions for senior citizen.

No Concession for Senior Citizens:

There will be no concessions in fares for senior citizens or accreditation cardholders.

Refund Policy:

IRCTC has for the first time introduced the concept of partial refunds if there is any delay in train. For e.g., if the train is late by over an hour, then the passenger will get a refund of Rs 100 and if the train is delayed by over two hours, then Rs 250 will be refunded.

How to Book Tejas Express Ticket?

Passengers can book the ticket of the premium train through the website of IRCTC and it cannot be done through a ticket opening window. From the IRCTC mobile app, you can book up to 60 days in advance. There is no tatkal ticket booking facility for the train.

Snacks:

Passengers travelling in Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express will be provided with good quality food and beverage. There will be a separate vending machine for tea and coffee completely free of cost. In the morning at the time of the boarding, passengers will be provided with tea, breakfast, snack and at the time of deboarding, they will be provided with tea and dinner.

Passengers can choose combo meals onboard—catering charges of Rs 185 for chair car and Rs 245 for executive chair car are included in the ticket prices—for the full length of the journey from Lucknow to Delhi. RO machines have been installed in the train and passengers can call for water through these machines.

Baggage Pick-up & Drop Option:

Passengers travelling in this train can avail the luxury of baggage pick up-drop facility on a payable basis. Their baggage will be collected from their homes and it will be delivered on the train seats and further from the seats to the destination stay point.

Travel Insurance

All passengers travelling in Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express will be granted a free rail travel insurance of Rs 25 lakh.

According to a previous ANI report, each coach of the Tejas Express is fitted with CCTV installations. LED screens are also be provided for each passenger, with on-demand entertainment facilities. In addition to this, commuters can use WiFi facilities, charging points and also, modular bio-toilets. The curtains on windows of the coach could be raised or lowered using buttons only. For the convenience of inter-coach mobility, automatic interconnected doors have also been provided.
