Kashmir is one of nature’s gems we have in the country. As opposed to the political situation within the state and the constant conflicts, the city is laden with wallpaper-like views all around. The charm of this state is unmissable but unfortunately, a lot of tourists are turning their back due to the skirmishes. This inturn affects the economy which sustains a lot on its tourism. In a bid to attract more and more tourists to the scenic valleys, there is a plan to introduce glass-top trains in the state! So not just the windows, passengers would enjoy the stunning visuals even right above in this wonderland.

These trains are called Vistadome trains- which have a glass ceiling and are a common attraction in Switzerland. Currently, such trains are running between Mumbai-Goa line and the Visakhapatnam-Araku route and tourists are loving the experience. So to ensure the same in Kashmir, which is naturally blessed with charming views, the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu along with the Chief Minister have proposed for the idea for these Vistadome trains. The proposal was sent out last year and may soon come into effect. “The Chief Minister and I have talked about how to increase tourism by virtue of Railways. So, we will soon start a Vistadome train because I do not think there is any other place in the whole world like Kashmir. We have placed an order with our coach factories for the Vistadome train,” he was quoted.

Other than just the glass-ceiling facility these trains also have plush services like push-back rotating chairs, GPS-based information system, LED lights, multiple television screens for infotainment, and automatic sliding compartment doors. Along with the technical aspects, the trains will also provide a lavish spread of the famous Kashmiri Wazwan cuisine. So this is going to be a wholesome Kashmiri experience. Currently, the route these trains will cover is yet to decided and it is important they support all weather conditions. Kashmir is seeing heavenly snowfall currently and even normal running trains are making a delightful sight. Let us wait to see if the Vistadome trains will take the entire route from Banihal to Baramulla. But the plan looks super way to attract more tourists to the valley.
