History of Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati

The temple was established by Dagdusheth Halwai, a prominent sweet seller and businessman in Pune, in the late 19th century. The temple was built in memory of his beloved son, who had passed away at a young age in a plague epidemic. Dagdusheth Halwai and his wife, Lakshmibai, were devoted to Lord Ganesha, and they decided to build a grand temple in his honour. The construction of the temple began in 1893, and it was completed in 1897.

By Train: You can take an express train from Mumbai to Pune and get down at the Shivaji Nagar station. From there, a 10-minute local rickshaw ride can drop you to the temple.

By Road: Pune is well-connected by PMT buses. Some of the closest stops to the Dagdusheth Ganpati Mandir are Appa Balwant Chowk, Mahatma Phule Mandai, City Post, all within 5 5-minute walk from the temple. There are several buses as well as direct cab services that run regularly from Mumbai to Pune.
