Bengaluru, October 1: Carpooling has been prohibited in Bengaluru by the city's transport authority. According to officials, carpooling may result in fines of up to Rs 10,000. The decision was made after the department received many complaints from the taxi organisations, according to officials. Unregistered automobiles, according to transportation officials, cannot be utilised as cabs. Further, white number plates not registered for commercial use can also be used as cabs.

Carpooling apps are breaking the law by aggregating private automobiles that are not permitted to be utilised for commercial reasons. We have received complaints from taxi driver unions. Meanwhile, on Saturday, representatives of the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) met with Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar to explore a plan to reduce traffic congestion on the city's ORR stretch during peak hours.
