Sports journalist Nicky Bandini has publicly come out as transgender. She made the revelation through a 'coming out' video on Twitter. Nicky Bandini has worked as a sports writer and broadcaster with various news outlets. She presently works with Guardian as a contributor along with many other organisations. Her Twitter bio reads: 'Sports writer & broadcaster specialising in European football and NFL. In the video, Bandini posted on Twitter, she says, "This is a coming-out video. My name is Nicky Bandini, you may have known me as Paulo Bandini because that is the name I have worked under for the past 13 years as a journalist. I am transgender. I came out in my private life about that a little while ago, but now I guess I am coming out in my public life as well."

In an article posted on The Guardian titled 'I'm Nicky Bandini – and I'm still a sports writer', she writes, "I am transgender. I know that sentence will come as a shock to many people. Even after struggling with gender dysphoria – a sense of discomfort with and dissociation from the body that life dealt me and the expectations that go with it – for almost my whole life, it took me the best part of three‑and‑a-half decades to be able to say it out loud."

Nicki's 'Coming Out' video was quick to viral on social media garnering a lot of support. People praised her decision to come out in public and thanked her for inspiring many who looks up to her. A Twitter user commented, "You're right, sports journalism is not always a welcoming place for people who are not straight men but stories like this contribute to change." Another comment reads, "Total respect and admiration for you, Nicky. Nothing should change in the eyes of anyone other than yourself but congratulations on taking such a bold and brave step in your life."
