If you have been thinking Tinder is the dating application for hook-ups then you might have to drop that impression. A new study conducted on Tinder users showed that they aren't having more sex than any normal person. Researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) surveyed more than 600 students on their social media use of dating apps and sexual behaviour. And they found that as much as people on dating applications like Tinder are interested in short-term sexual relationships, they are not practically hooking up with anyone.

The age of the 641 subjects was between 19-29 and it was found that yes, these people were interested in having sex outside a committed relationship but were they actually having it? No. So yes these people are more hornier and as the researchers described them as having a 'sociosexual orientation.' And more of these people were active on dating apps.

So it seems obvious to just swipe and meet up to have a good time in bed. “Dating app users don’t have more casual sexual partners than others with the same short-term preference,” Mons Bendixen, an associate professor at NTNU’s Department of Psychology, said in a statement.

The researchers went to describe Tinder as a digital way of hooking up with someone you just hit it off at the bar. Now people do not necessarily need to head out to a bar and meet up when you can have them accessible on your smartphone. The study compared the 'sociosexual oriented' people with an average person who is getting dates despite a dating app. They even studied the difference in which men and women use the application. Women take more time to consider if they would actually go out with the potential date while men, on the other hand, can talk to a lot of women and take quick decisions.

What's also interesting is the users may not look at the dating application for any hooking up at all, but just as an entertainment. Both the gender users said they used the application when they are bored and have nothing else to do. Not bad? So if you haven't been on the application yet, maybe just give it a try? Even if you do not end up in bed, you'd know there are many others who are using it just for fun as well.
