Mumbai, August 22: Nayrhit Bhattacharya, co-founder of Gushwork, and his wife, Rishita Das, an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Engineering at IISc Bengaluru, returned to India last year after spending 10 years in the US. In his X post on August 20, Nayrhit informed about his past year's experiences and learnings since they shifted to India and charted out the differences of work and living in the US and India.

The couple had shifted to the US after graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IITK) in 2016 and lived and worked in the US till 2023. It was in 2023 that they decided to move back to India to dedicate their "lives to building & researching technologies out of India for the world", as Nayrhit wrote in his post. AMD and IIT-Bombay Incubator 'Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship' Partner To Support Semiconductor Startups in India.

What Are the Differences They Encountered in the US Versus India?

The couple chose India to pursue their technological goals because, to them, it was the perfect location to build a cross-border platform that aims to bridge the Eastern and Western worlds. Nayrhit dedicated his compilation of life lessons to all the 20-40-year-old Indians who are still in conundrums about making their move back to India. IIT Delhi Researchers Release New Study That Provides Alternate Solution to Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Nayrhit’s Post From 2023 Announcing Their Move to India

Here are the differences between the two countries' lifestyles:

1. Regarding the availability of domestic help, The IITian wrote that it's easier in India than in the US. They had to work extra hours to do household chores.

2. On the traffic situation, he criticised India for having a "more irritating" condition with unpredictable driving practices, unlike the US which is a little better comparatively.

3. Nayrhit praised India for its advanced level of digital convenience- from quick essentials delivered within minutes, unlike in the US.

4. Due to cultural differences, The IITian mentioned that it is easier for him to make new connections in India than in the US.

5. Nayrhit scored India as a winner in handling digital payments and praised government infrastructure like UPI.

6. However, Nayrhit mentioned that he missed the orderly queues in the US, unlike the chaotic and inconvenient ones in India. He added that one gets used to the Indian system soon.

7. Being a foodie, Nayrhit said it was a relief to finally return to India's Dosas and Biryanis from the usual PB&J and Burgers in the US.

8. The IITian gave a point to the US if one was an "outdoorsy person" for the ease of convenience it has over India when it came to hiking and biking.

9. Nayrhit criticised India's rather judgemental attitude toward the queer communities and the lack of its acceptance as a norm. He has hopes it will change fast in the coming years.

10. Claiming that the job market is tough on both sides, Nayrhit said that one has to cut back on their lifestyle in India unless one secures a high-paying gig.

Although the couple has to keep shuffling between the two countries due to their varied customer base, they intend to keep dedicating the coming years of their lives to researching technologies in India. They are also excited to be working from their Bengaluru office as after post-Covid, the work culture took a partial shift to working from home.
