We all have some sexual fantasies but most of us are secretive about it. Mostly because they are very personal and can be strange. Also, people can be judgmental. Sexual fantasy is often associated with your psychological health and they can be considered unhealthy in certain situations. Good news! Sexual fantasies are in fact good for a relationship. A recent study in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, revealed that fantasising about your partner induces relationship improving behaviours and inspires “I am feeling this” vibes in you. Needless to say, that benefits your marriage and your relationship.
Staying away from your partner for long is one of the reasons why you may start fantasising. Afterall, who likes a dry spell? Ask these guys who made the 'Days without Sex' Meme.
In a paper released on August 18, a team of Israeli researchers acknowledge that fantasising about others when in a relationship, the relationship’s demise is on the horizon. While fantasising about your partner can actually make the relationship stronger. The term used for thinking about "sexy time" with a romantic partner is called “dyadic fantasizing,” and involving a romantic partner in those fantasies not only increases their perceived appeal but also motivates the fantasiser to invest more in the relationship, as per a report in Inverse.
The report also quotes Gurit Birnbaum saying, “The rewarding aspects of fantasizing might become associated with the partner and the relationship, colouring them in a more appealing light.”
Fantasies increase your desire to show emotions and physical love to your partner. The study also reveals other interesting facts like post a sexy daydreaming about your partner, you are more likely to express romantic kindness, such as giving compliments etc.
Another interesting experiment by the researchers was that they asked the subjects to imagine a serious conversation with their partner about general life concerns and see if that excites them to have sex post that. It did not.
In line with previous studies about the benefits of daydreaming like, getting over a phobia and better work performance, a relationship also benefits from it. Sexual fantasies, says Birnbaum, seem to act in the same way. If you can dream it, you really can do it.
