We all have met them, we all have been helped by them- the pharmacists. Nothing in the world can replace what pharmacists do. Hence, September 25 is observed as World Pharmacists Day every year. The brainchild of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), WPD was established in the late 2000s during a conference staged in Istanbul, Turkey. The day that commemorates all the pharmacists in the world aims to bring attention to pharmacies and their contribution to the health sector. FIP encourages all its members to get involved to participate in events that observe the day.

World Pharmacists Day 2019 Theme and Significance

World Pharmacists Day 2019 theme is "Safe and effective medicines for all." As the phrase suggests, the theme aims to help provide people with safe and effective medicines for good and also highlight the key role that pharmacists.  As per the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) the pharmacists' role in protecting patient safety through improved medication use and reduced medication errors needs to be highlighted to encourage the pharmacists. "Pharmacists use their broad knowledge and unique expertise to ensure that people get the best from their medicines. We ensure access to medicines and their appropriate use, improve adherence, coordinate care transitions, and so much more. Today, more than ever, pharmacists are charged with the responsibility to ensure that when a patient uses a medicine, it will not cause harm,"  said FIP President Dominique Jordan.

Various events and ceremonies take place all around the world to thank pharmacists for what they do. Different themes are also announced so that associations and individuals in the pharmaceutical industry can run campaigns to present the good work done by the pharmacists.
