Are you struggling to get well-defined abs? Many desire a chiselled core and their main motivation for hitting the gym is just to get well-toned abdominal muscles. Despite following a strict diet and exercising regularly, we still fail to attain visible abs. Now, a  technique known as abdominal etching is putting our ab problems to rest. Abdominal etching helps create a visibly appealing set of abs with a little help from surgeons. Why Are Six Pack Abs Unhealthy? All That You Should Know Before Aiming for A Chiseled Core.

What is Abdominal Etching?

According to a study published in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, abdominal etching is a liposuction method used to achieve a greater definition for abdominal muscle. According to the paper by Tarik M. Husain, MD, FACS, of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and colleagues. “Abdominal etching using power-assisted liposuction is a novel method of sculpting an ideal abdomen." Dr Husain further mentioned in his report that abdominal etching is a safe and effective method to get that that aesthetic look for abdominal muscle.

Dr Tarik Husain along with his research team took a sample of 50 people(26 men and 24 women), the average age of 36 to study the effectiveness of abdominal etching. This group of 50 people were already in decent shape, with a healthy diet and regular exercise routine. However, these people had some stubborn areas of fat on their abdomen which created difficulty for them to achieve a six pack abs. This technique helps in remove the abdominal fat in both the superficial and deeper layers, which lead to natural "six-pack" lines in males and three vertical lines in females.

The group of 50 people who went through abdominal etching did not report any major complication, requiring re-hospitalisation. Minor complication like over-etching occurred in 22 percent of people from the sample study, however, it improved over time.

Things to be Remembered for Abdominal Etching

After undergoing abdominal etching, one should not train their core muscles for at least two weeks. Heavy workouts should also be avoided six weeks after abdominal etching, although light exercise can be continued. In order to have an effective, long-lasting result, proper diet should be taken from a sports nutritionist along with consultation from medicine physician. If seromas or fluid collection occurs, it needs to be treated aggressively.

Every individual has different fitness goals, some train for strength, power, endurance while other trains for aesthetics. Six-pack abs are visible by reducing the abdominal fat, which abdominal etching does. However, it doesn't increase your core muscle strength the way planks and stiff leg raises do.
