US Surgeon Sued After He Removes Woman's Healthy Kidneys Instead of Her Adrenal glands
Dana Knapp's lawsuit says that she started suffering from an incurable and a progressive kidney disease after the botched surgery.
In what can be best explained as a medical nightmare, a woman from the USA got one of her kidneys wrongfully removed due to the surgeon’s carelessness. Dena Knapp, a woman from Iowa alleged that in 2016, Dr Scott Baker took away one of her kidneys instead of just removing her adrenal gland and a mass that had developed on it. According to a report in Argus Leader, the botched surgery cost the Knapp her healthy kidney that was working perfectly. Her lawsuit says that she started suffering from an incurable and a progressive kidney disease after the botched surgery.
The lawsuit also mentions that Dr Baker was informed by the pathology lab on Oct 5, 2016, that the mass in her kidney was not removed and he had removed her kidney instead. He, in turn, called Knapp two days later and told her he hadn’t heard from the pathology lab. Expert tips to keep your kidney healthy
Later, he informed her that a part of her adrenal gland was still left inside her body and that he “did not get everything.” He insisted that she needs to undergo another surgery. But instead, she went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where the gland and the mass were removed. The surgeon behind the botched operation was unavailable for comment.
