As per manofmany.com, Steve Smith believes in a long and intense workout. He wakes up early every morning and goes for a jog. This is then followed by IWT, which is an extremely tough program. It does not end here, he then spends some time in cricket training nets. IWT is generally practised in three phases which utilises major muscle mass building strength and also reduce fat at the same time. The sample of IWT training in three phases are as follows:
Phase 1- Athletic lifts like power clean or snatch followed by 2-4 minutes of aerobic exercises like a burpee, mountain climber with 90-95% heart rate. Perform 3 rounds with 2 mins rest in between before beginning second phase rest for 5 mins.
Phase 2- Start with little less intense lift like the front squat, barbell bentover-row followed by 2-4 mins of aerobix exercise like split jump, box jump, etc with an aim to reach Target Heart Rate (THR) of 90-95%. The resting and round pattern remain the same as phase 1.
Phase 3- This basically includes circuit training like which includes bodyweight exercises like jump squat, pistol squat, spiderman-push-ups, etc. Here you have to perform 3 to 5 sets of 8 repetitions with a rest period of not more than one minute between each set.
