Sixty three year old Kevin Daly from New Jersey, USA knew something was wrong when his huge pot belly stayed putt despite him losing 34 pounds. What he earlier suspected to be a simple case of beer belly turned out to be a medical nightmare. The sexagenarian convinced his doctor to get an emergency CAT scan. That's when it was revealed he was carrying a ginormous cancerous tumour, weight 13 kg in his stomach. The beach ball-sized tumour was lipsarcoma, a cancer that develops in the fat cells of soft tissues.

Kevin was working as a financial planner when he underwent an open heart surgery in 2015. Soon after the surgery, he lost a lot of weight. But strangely, despite losing a lot of weight overall, he didn't lose the fat around his stomach. This made him and his wife Rachelle suspicious. "I thought they literally left stuffing and tools in me from surgery," he told the New York Daily.

He then convinced Dr Varinder Singh from Lenox Hill Hospital to perform a CAT scan, despite objections from his insurance provider. That's when the tumour was detected. The sarcoma initially looked like a fatty tissue, which made the diagnosis difficult at first.

During the surgery, the doctors found out that the mass was three times what they'd thought it be. It had also wrapped around one of Kevin's kidneys. "It's one thing to see the picture. It's another thing to actually have it in your hands," Kevin's surgeon Dr Julio Teixeira said.

Doctors believe that it must have taken the tumour around 10-15 years to grow to that size. But luckily, the tumour didn't harm any of his other internal organs. "Before the surgery, my left descending colon was pushed under my sternum. I could touch it through my skin to make my food digest," Kevin said.

With the tumour out of his way, Kevin is now recuperating and his organs have returned to their original position.
