This a devastating accident completely destroyed his memory making ability making his condition similar to someone suffering from Alzheimer's.
This 40-year-old man called Nic McMahon as reported by The Daily Mail had gone out for a spin on his sports bike in the year 2011 and that is when he met with this major accident that threw him off his bike and because of which he landed on his head. Despite wearing a helmet Nic's brain smashed against the inside of his skull that caused him an irreparable damage to the part of his brain that controls emotions and memories- frontal lobe.
Since he is unable to make memories he takes pictures of all the moments spent with his family. The report further says that Mr. McMahon has developed epilepsy due to the crash and has forgotten 10 years of his life which includes his wedding day, his father's death and the births of his two sons. All this has caused his wife to quit her job as a bank manager and become his full-time caregiver.
What Is Frontal Lobe and What Happens When It Is Damaged?
The frontal lobes is that part of the brain that controls the memory and emotions of a human being. They are considered to be our emotional control center. The frontal lobes control our personality and lesions in this part of the brain can cause a wide variety of symptoms. Our frontal lobes are involved in a variety of emotional and physical functions apart from memory like the motor function, initiation, spontaneity, impulse control, problem-solving, language, judgment, and social and sexual behavior. While the left frontal lobe is associated with managing language related movement, the right frontal lobe plays a role in non-verbal skills.
However, since the frontal lobes are positioned at the front of the cranium, they are extremely vulnerable to injury. Studies have proven that the frontal area is very prone to mild to moderate traumatic brain injury and cause various kinds of memory loss issues depending on the severity of the injury.
