The world knows about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s love for Yoga. He has always been vocal about support for the ancient practice, calling it “a symbol of universal aspiration for health and wellbeing” and “health assurance in zero budget.” Ever since the inception of National Yoga Day in 2015, the PM has been kick-starting the event by performing yogasanas for the entire nation. In 2017, he also demonstrated his dedication towards fitness by performing asanas on Yoga Day, despite the light showers. But on Sunday morning of March 25, 2018, soon after the PM's Mann Ki Baat talk on AIR, people were surprised by a video, where a computer-generated, 3D avatar of PM Modi was seen performing Trikonasana. The video resonated the PM's Sunday-morning talk about finding innovative ways to propagate yoga. The asana performed by PM Modi's doppelganger has a lot of health benefits and is one of the easiest ones to perform. Here’s everything you need to know about the asana.

What is Trikonasana?

The world Trikonasana comes from the Sanskrit word Trikon meaning triangle and asana meaning pose. While performing the asana, the person’s body resembles a triangle, which explains the name of the pose.

How to perform Trikonasana?

Before performing the asana, it’s important that you cleanse your bowels. It should be performed on an empty stomach in the morning. To perform the asana, follow the steps:

1.Stand upright with your legs apart and your arms at your sides.

2.Turn your right foot out by 90 degree and your left foot in by 15 degrees. The heel of your right foot should be aligned with the heel of your left foot.

3.Balance your body weight and ensure both your feet are pressing into the ground.

4.Take a deep breath. And as you breathe out, bend your body down to the right side. Don’t bend forward but to your side!

5.As you bend, raise your left hand and lower your right hand to the floor. Both the hands should be in a straight line.

6.Keep your eyes on your raise left hand while your right hand is at your ankles.

7.Relax your body and keep taking deep breaths.

8.As you inhale, bring your arms back to their original position and stand upright again.

9.Repeat with the other side.

Despite being so easy to perform, Trikonasana has a wide range of health benefits.
