Mumbai, December 23: In a shocking statistics that have come to the front, on an average 50 Mumbaikars suffer a stroke or brain attack, but less than 10 percent can make it to the hospital in time in order to avoid the paralysing effect. According to a Times of India report, Mumbai Stroke society started training 108 free ambulance service staff on how to recognise symptoms of a stroke.
The incident of stroke in India is between 105 and 152 per 1 lakh persons per year. Stroke was the 13th cause of mortality in India in 1990, it came to the 10th place in 2016. On average, there are 1,800 to 2,000 people suffer a stroke each month and out of these huge numbers, only 130 people manage to get right and on-time treatment. The Mumbai Stroke society felt that 108 staff would be the best placed to take the patient to the nearest hospital with a CT scanner to the start the right treatment. Doctors believe that the training to these staff will help patients who get affected by stroke or brain attack in the initial crucial few minutes.
